I posted something definitive yesterday: "Anthropic is the big winner for me, and I'm seriously considering putting all my money in that direction because I can get everything on one platform."
That's not hype. That's me doing the math.
Six months ago, I was scattered. Cline in VS Code. Copilot on the side. Bolt.new for quick prototypes. Lovable for a different kind of quick project. ChatGPT for research. The Claude web console for when I needed to think through something. Anthropic's API for cost reasons. Gemini for comparisons.
I was effective, but I was context-switching between tools constantly. Each one had a different interface, different capabilities, different pricing. Debugging meant opening three different consoles. Understanding what worked meant comparing experiences across platforms.
It was fragmented.
Then Claude Code happened. And the picture clarified immediately.
Here's what Anthropic offers now, on one platform:
Code — Claude Code for the CLI. The agentic coding tool. Handles complex projects, coordinates agents, runs tests, iterates.
Chat — Claude web interface for conversation and thinking. When I need to reason through something with the AI before I code.
Research — Their research console for exploring and documenting ideas.
MCP Integration — Model Context Protocol support, which means I can connect Claude to my own tools, my dev containers, my infrastructure.
It's convergent. Everything flows together.
OpenAI's moving in the same direction with their own tools, but they're starting from a different place. They've got Copilot, they've got their web interface, they're building integrations. But it doesn't feel like one coherent system yet. It feels like multiple products being stitched together.
Anthropic feels different. The parts fit together because they were designed together.
The middle-layer tools I wondered about earlier — the ones trying to sit between the model providers and the users (I was thinking of Cline, Lovable, Bolt) — they're in an interesting position right now. Can they compete with integrated stacks from the model providers? Maybe. But the gravity is pulling toward consolidation. If I can get everything from Anthropic, why would I need something in between?
That's not a cynical observation. It's just market mechanics.
For me personally, it means I can simplify. I can stop comparing. I can get deeper with fewer tools. And when I eventually hit Anthropic's limits (and I will), I'll know exactly where they are because I won't be confusing limitations with the fact that I was using the wrong tool.
The $100/month Claude Code subscription feels less like an expense and more like an investment in consolidation.
Fewer tools. Deeper knowledge. Better results.
